Sanko Gosei UK Ltd have signed a license agreement with GTC the market leaders for in mould paintfilm technology, as an alternative to body coloured painting, but with many durability benefits.
Green Tokai Company Ltd in Dayton Ohio have won many awards in the USA for their application of paint film technology into Injection moulded exterior body parts and with good reason . Successive development and application of the technology for OEM’s such as Toyota and Honda has brought them to a market leaders position with a national award from the Society of Professional Engineers . The technology based on insert moulding a pre-printed , vacuum formed body colour insert into the injection moulded tool and wrapping this around the required profile has lead to many successful Patents globally .
The desire to further develop the technology and expand the application to other continents lead GTC Ltd to search for a European partner culminating in the signing of a License Agreement on the 30th May with Sanko Gosei Ltd . Sanko Gosei in Europe and Green Tokai in US have a synergy in culture , both companies being of Japanese origin but with well developed local production this making a good basis for the agreement . Paul Uritani , President and CEO of Green Tokai said ‘ Finding a partner for paint film has been an important objective for us , not only to help us continue our development work so far but also to control the introduction of paint film into new markets . Paint film is now an established process in the US with a good reputation and we are keen to make sure that the global application of this technology is controlled with good partners to make sure this reputation is upheld’
Sanko Gosei already manufacture a wide range of exterior body panels in their facilities in Skelmersdale , UK and Sittard , Netherlands but with current requirements all these parts need to be painted , a process that is not only problematic but also damaging to the environment . A key reason for Sanko to enter a partnership with GTC were for these exact reasons , the paint film technology does not require the investment into large multi stage painting lines and the VOC emissions are reduced significantly , furthermore the end products are fully recyclable without the need to remove the paint surface .
If the environmental benefits were not enough then the products also bring additional value to the OEM’s , millions of products now in the US market have proven that stone chip performance is dramatically improved by use of paint film and hence not only are warranty costs reduced but also this enhanced performance brings the product designers more scope to improve the body design in these areas without the need for adhesive protection films etc .
As a result of the License agreement then Sanko Gosei UK Ltd already have running development projects with UK OEM’s and expect full production to start in 2007 . Andre Smeets , Managing Director for Sanko Netherlands and Sanko UK says ‘ The chance to establish this relationship with such a company as Green Tokai further enhances our portfolio of new technology in Europe , technology that is vital for success in our current market situations . Green Tokai have proven skill and expertise in this field and we are confident that together we can firmly establish this excellent technology into the European market’
